Himachal Pradesh is well-known for its unusual travel locations and breathtaking natural beauty. Although Dharamshala, Manali, and Shimla are well-known tourist spots, the State has many other undiscovered attractions that are well worth exploring. These offbeat locations, like Tirthan Valley, provide a welcome diversion from the tourist crowd and let you take in the beauty of the natural world.

Tirthan Valley in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, is a testament to the state’s incredible diversity and offers an unforgettable journey that you’ll cherish for a lifetime. Whether you’re looking for adventure in the untamed wilderness, spiritual solace amidst ancient temples, or simply a yearning for serenity in the lap of nature, you will find that in Tirthan Valley. Here are some of the hidden gems of Tirthan Valley.

Chehni Kothi

The massive tower-like structure in Chehni Kothi, a small settlement, is believed to have been constructed in the 17th century. This is one of the tallest buildings constructed using the regional style of architecture. Chehni Kothi was once a seven-tiered tower before the 1905 earthquake devastated it. The top two towers collapsed, leaving the remaining five towers. It is currently one of Tirthan Valley’s main attractions.

To visit Chehni Kothi, you will drive 3 kilometers from Banjar towards Jibhi. Ask around and watch for the stairs leading to Shringa Rishi Temple. Leave your vehicle on the road, climb up to the temple, and continue on the 3 3-kilometer trail to Chehni Kothi.

Beautiful Waterfalls

Tirthan Valley is home to some of the most beautiful waterfalls in Himachal.

Gaidhar Waterfall is a breathtaking waterfall tucked away in the depths of the forest and is less well-known. Gaidhar Village is the starting point of the waterfall walk. The trek offers beautiful views, but it is sometimes difficult due to its steep sections.

Chhoie Waterfall

One of the simplest and most popular hikes in the valley leads to Chhoie Waterfall, also known as Sai Ropa Waterfall. This stunning waterfall is only a short stroll away, taking between 30-45 minutes. Although the season directly impacts the water level, most visitors to Tirtan Valley hike to the Chhoie.

The Great Himalayan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a haven for avid trekkers. It can be accessed from Tirthan Valley or Sainj Valley. Many endangered species, including snow leopards, musk deer, serows, and cheer pheasants, are protected in the park. GHNP is widespread among explorers, providing various trekking and camping opportunities. The walks, which vary in difficulty, offer breathtaking scenery as they go.

With over 200 different species of birds, including the Himalayan monal, cheer pheasant, and koklass pheasant, the valley is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Remember to bring your camera and binoculars to record these fantastic experiences.

Small and welcoming villages

Shoja

Shoja is a quaint little village five kilometers from the summit of Jalori Pass. It’s a small hamlet with a calm ambiance and quietness all around. There are several places to stay here, the most well-known of which is Banjara Retreat. Tourists staying here must visit the Jalori Pass.

Nagini

This is yet another of the valley’s many tourist destinations. One of Nagini’s better guest houses is the Khem Bharti Guest House, also called Trout Valley Guest House.

Last Village of Tirthan Valley

The charming hamlet of Ghalingcha village is situated in the Tirthan Valley, more precisely, the Falachan Valley. The scenery gets rougher and more isolated from here. Past Ghalingcha, the land is more challenging to access and has become a pure wilderness typical of the Great Himalayan National Park. It is the last town before hikers and explorers enter the national park to embark on more challenging and isolated treks like “Shrikhand Mahadev.”

Ghalingcha provides insight into the Himachali people’s customs and way of life. It’s a culturally rich experience for visitors who can interact with residents and learn about the area’s way of life, traditions, and food. Despite being a lesser-known location, Ghalingcha offers a unique and serene experience away from the busy tourist masses, making it the perfect choice for anyone seeking solitude.

These were just some of the lesser-known gems in Tirthan Valley that one must check out while visiting this beautiful valley.
